Bindu replaced with Sunaina in 'Neer Paravai'PGV  [ Wed, Mar 28, 2012 ]

  • Actress Bindu Madhavi is unlucky for a second time this season. Some problem or the opposite unsettles her.

She have been replaced with Sunaina in 'Neer Paravai' directed by Seenuramasamy. Sunaina will start shooting for the award-winning director next month at a coastal village in Tuticorin district. The lives of fisher folk within the southern coastal Tamil Nadu is the topic to be handled within the film. Noted writer Jaya Mohan has written the dialogues while Vairamuthu has penned the lyrics for 'Neer Paravai' to be produced by Udayanidhi Stalin.

Explaining why Bindu needs to be replaced, Seenuramasamy says Bindu is a great actress, but for the reason that production of the film got delayed as a result of row within the industry over wage increase for film employees, she couldn't adjust her dates for the film.

This is the second one time she is unlucky. Not long ago, director Arivazhagan of 'Eeram' fame had replaced Bindu with a brand new face Mridhula in his 'Vallinam' after the unit reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over her pairing with the hero Nakulan. Whilst Bindu was smarting under this blow, director Seenuramasamy had signed her up for his 'Neer Paravai' by which she was to play the feminine lead.

Bindu had acted in ‘Veppam’ and her next film was 'Kazhugu' during which she played opposite Kreshna. She has received accolades for her performance in 'Kazhugu'.

Review - Nanda Nanditha

Review - Nanda Nanditha

Cast: Hemachandra, Meghna Raj, Nassar
Director: Ramshiva

Nanda Nanditha is a romantic entertainer. Directed by Ramshiva, it begins on a brisk note to lose steam because it goes. The director has missed out at the plot because the script wanders. The film stars Hemachandran and Meghnaraj within the lead roles. Nasser and Shanmugarajan play prominent roles within the film .Read on for Nanda Nanditha Tamil Movie review

Nanda (hamchandran) is driven out of the home by his drunkard father. He with out a other option joins his friend who's a thug. Nandha meets Nandhitha (Meghnaraj). They fall in love with each other. But Nandha has to do a role entrusted to him.He has to bump off Knockout Chandran (Shanmugarajan), an election candidate for one Devaraj (Nasser), who's an influential man.

Hemachandran has tried his best as solo hero. He's okay in phases. Good in action sequences, he loses out on romance. Meghnaraj is apt for the role. She is at her best in romantic escapades. Nasser and Shanmugarajan deliver their best. The remainder of the forged form a part of the tale. But must give their best.

Ramshiva has tried to offer everything in a single go. Romance, action, comedy in any respect. But he has missed out at the logic. The script meanders here and there. Nandha Nandhitha is an okay fare.

Verdict: OK

Review - Maasi

Review - Maasi

Cast: Arjun, Hema, Archana, Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Pradeep Rawat, Ponnambalam, Santhana Bharathy
Music: Dhina
Direction: Kitcha

Films starring Arjun as police officer are full of action. Maasi is not any different. It has everything to enthuse action-lovers. Directed by Kitcha, Maasi is ready a police officer on a mission. He fights a gang of baddies in a bid to eliminate the society of criminals.

The movie boasts of an enormous star cast that comes with Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Pradeep Rawat, Ponnambalam, Santhana Bharathy, Dhool Sakunthala, Bala Singh among others.

Maasi (Arjun) is a police officer specialised in encounters. He's an apprehension for criminals. He vows to eliminate the baddies - Naaga (Pradeep Rawath), operating from Mumbai and Nandha (Ponnambalam) who along with his henchmen controls Chennai. Interestingly there's a gang war between Nandha and Naaga.

Massi steps in. He suffers loss within the type of his wife, mother from the hands of those baddies. There's a political twist within the tale too. However he uses his muscles and in addition his brain to outwit them and accomplish his mission.

It is an ordinary Arjun in khaaki. Someone whom we had seen for a few years. He's good as usual in stunt sequences. The actor is youthful and bubbly. The heroines Hema and Archana don't have any part to play on this macho-man story. The entire villains speak from their belly and seem like caricatures.

Boopathy has done the camera and the chase and stunts are captuired well. Saleem’s editing is okay, while Dhina has get a hold of songs that sounds familiar to us. Anal Arasu’s stunts sequences holds our attention.

It is a beaten - to-bush storyline. A ll is predictable on this cop story. But Arjun’s screen presence makes the variation. Kitcha’s passion for khakhi continues

Verdict: A MOVIE on Arjun’s Shoulders

Review - Kazhugu

Review - Kazhugu

Cast: Krishna, Bindu Madhavi, Karunas, Thambi Ramaiah
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Direction: Sathyasiva

Director Sathyasiva has get a hold of a film that takes an in depth have a look at men who're taken with the job of taking bodies of these who commit suicide jumping from the hill top at Kodaikanal. The filmmaker seems to have done intense research and ensures that their emotions are recorded well on big screen.

WIth only a few characters, he has penned a touchy tale. Krishna, Bindhu Madjhavi, Thambi Ramia and Karunas form a part of the solid. Jayaprakash plays a restrained role. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Sera (Krishna) together with his friends Nandu (Karunaas) and Shanmugham (Thambi Ramiah) earns livelihood as body lifters in Kodaikanal. Death is something that feeds them. But romance blossoms between Kavitha (Bindhu Madhavi) and Sera, who retrieves the body of Kavitha’s sister who commits suicide. Sera is convinced to marry Kavitha against all odds. All goes easy and smooth until Ayya (Jayaprakash) involves the scene. One act of him lands Shanmugham in trouble. Sera and Nandu in big trouble. Finally all results in a war between them. There's lack of lives and who prevails in any case forms the climax.

Krishna plays an excellent foil as Sera. He emotes well. He has proved that he can do serious roles readily. Bindhu Madhavi does a good job, while Karunaas and Thambi Ramiah walks away with applause playing a groovy role well. Jayaprakash deserves accolades for pulling it off well. All other characters pitch of their best.

Sathya’s cinematography and Remiyan’s art direction compliments well the script. The camera captures Kodaikanal in natural light. Catch the most efficient of melodious by Yuvan Shankar Raja. His songs are amazing and sweet. SO is his background score. Sathyasiva’s dialogues too are best and cool.

All said, the movie produced by Talking Times is different. It speaks about pain and agony of a specific community. The second one half wanders and is lengthy, but still watchable.

Verdict: Slick movie by New Director

The film was released on March 24, 2012 and it received positive reviews. The tale is unconventional. It 'confronts' so-called astrologers and god men out to take people for a ride. Veteran Sathyaraj, who shares the ideals of social reformer and rationalist leader EVR Periyar, (who used the word Vengayam repeatedly in his public speeches) appears in a couple of scenes and for a song penned by Suba Veerapandian. Alexander and Pavina play the lead roles. Nithya scores the music. Manickam SM produced the film.

Director/actor Cheran has now re-released the film with the intention of carrying its message to the loads. He cites 'Annakkili', 'Oru Thalai Ragam' and 'Chithiram Pesuthadi' and says they'd not received the response they must when first released. When the similar films were re-released, their import was realized and appreciated. The viewers celebrated. Those films in reality became trendsetters in Tamil cinema.

Cheran had watched 'Vengayam' after he heard about it. Debutant director Sankagiri Rachkumar had given a superior movie. He had boldly conveyed what society had to know. There has been also a message for the more youthful generation, Cheran says.

He has decided re-release it films like this could reach a much wider audience and the director should get due recognition. It's now running in additional than 52 theatres far and wide Tamil Nadu excepting Madurai. This time the film have been well received. Some directors were highly impressed after seeing the movie and so they have sent him the video recordings in their comments. Describing their exhilarating views as 'a tonic' Cheran says these directors can be a part of the success.

Elred Kumar plans second release of MUK without cutsPGV  [ Fri, Mar 23, 2012 ]

  • Director Elred Kumar's Muppozhudum Un Karpanaigal starring Atharva and Amala Paul was released recently. But he isn't happy because the film was subjected to 32 cuts which robbed it of its effervescence.

He needed to conform to the 32 cuts imposed at the film by the Censor Board given that he would get 30 per cent entertainment tax concession extended by the federal government to 'U' certificate films. With the 32 cuts MUK was granted 'U'.

But it seems like Elred wouldn't rest till his original version reaches out to the people.

As no tax benefit comes in Andhra Pradesh, he's going to release the Telugu version of the film with none cuts towards the top of April or within the first week of May.

He feels the unique script of MUK got distorted with the 32 cuts.. Moreover, the way in which the film was made have been affected. So, he's considering the opportunity of releasing a second version of MOU in Tamil just like the Telugu version with none cuts. "I DO NOT mind the film getting an 'A' certificate this time," he says.

Review - Sengathu Bhoomiyile

Review - Sengathu Bhoomiyile

Films according to friendship and family feuds resulting in the splits yearning for blood was having its realms over the ages in Tamil Cinema. It began with Bharathiraja, who convincingly set himself for the creation of such movies in rural backdrops. His very long time associate Rathnakumar, who have been penned scripts for many of the flicks made by Bharathiraja that come with Kizhakku Cheemayile, Karuthamma and award winning film Kadal Pookkal becomes an independent director with Sengathu Bhoomiyile.

Well, he brings within the traces of Bharathiraja by adding the sepia tone to the frame with dust and dry land that drenches itself in blood. Additionally, we've got the involvement of maestro Ilayaraja.

In simple terms, the director has tried to bring out the appealing factors of rural backdrops, but succumbs to clichés now and then.

Set in backdrops of Madurai, the film revolves around two friends Vallarasu (Pawan) and Chinnasamy (Senthil). Village’s most pretty belles Jayakodi (Sunulakshmi) and Vairasilai (Priyanka) are in love with these beaus. Everything is okay and healthy until a family feud breaks open resulting in the upward push of enmity between Vallarasu and Chinnasamy.

What unfolds next is a chain of clashes between these good friends-turned-foes.

What’s so special concerning the film is that director Rathnakumar has tried projecting the film with some emotional quotients that binds the audiences together over the screens. The relationships and friendships are really well portrayed here and the sufferings of those lead protagonists missing them are rather well delineated.

The highlighting factors of the film are the casting of actors and their commendable performances. Pawan and Kalyan have exhibited their best potentials. Priyanka and Sunulakshmi are equally good they usually score brownie points in the course of the climax. Adding best to the humour quotients is Singam Puli. A lot more than the songs, Ilayaraja strikes at his best in background score, which reinforces the visual aspects.

Though the fundamental plot of the film is set the hackneyed concepts, the director manages to maintain us engrossed from beginning till end. It could has been better if the director had trivialized the violence factors.

On the whole, it’s a good effort by Rathnakumar and all of the team.

Verdict: Good effort by all of the team.

Review - Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal

Production: Jayaraman, Elred Kumar and James
Banner: R. S. Infotainment
Cast: Atharvaa, Amala Paul
Music: G.V.Prakash Kumar

‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’ is another proud presentation from the banner R.S. Infotainment, which earlier presented the Simbhu-Trisha, starred ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’. This Romantic thriller is produced by Jayaraman, Elred Kumar and James. It features Atharvaa and Amala Paul within the lead roles. Elred Kumar has written and directed it. G.V.Prakash Kumar has scored the Music.

Everyone has strong hopes in regards to the power of positive vibrations. It's said that, “If we believe that, something should happen in our life, it'll surely happen. It'll or won't exactly happen within the timing, after we want. But, it is going to surely happen. MUK is predicated on that idea. ‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’ (MUK) is fundamentally according to that concept.

In this ‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’ (MUK), Ram alias Ramachandran (Atharvaa) comes from a village. He's the one son of his Widowed mother. Initially, he has some physical disabilities. But, he's treated by the efforts taken by her Mom. Because of most of these reasons, he's greatly attached to his mom.

The Story of ‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’ starts in Bengaluru. Ram commences his career in Chennai. Then, he proves himself in all stages and attains the location of Acting CEO too. Ram could be very shrewd, handsome and is just like the pioneer in his concern. All of the people around him, particularly his female Colleagues, Juniors are greatly crazy about him. They would like to divert his attention towards them. A Junior colleague named Radhi (Yashika) may be very much mad about Ram.

But, Ram is already in Love over Charu alias Charulatha (Amala Paul). Though, Ram pursues his career in Bengaluru, he commenced his career in Chennai. From Chennai, he's sent to Bengaluru to satisfy Charu (certainly one of his colleague in Bengaluru) after which participate jointly in a countrywide level Software Competition conducted in Bengaluru. Only in this circumstance, he meets Charu for the primary time, in his life.

From the start of Ram’s life, he was a great deal attached to his Mom. Anyhow, for the sake of professional career, he comes clear of his Mom. But, then starts to feel his aloofness. Exactly, on this situation, he comes across Charu in his life. He falls in Love with her, as a result of dearness from her end.

Meanwhile, they begin working together for that Software competition. Ram comes up with an innovation to seek out Software, which helps within the purification of Sand and water, which might be already polluted by various Radiations from Earth and from Space.

In the finals, their Project wins. But, from then, many changes occur in his life. Earlier, Ram and Charu encounter few miscreants, who misbehave with girls. As a result, they gain enmity of these miscreants. Charu’s Dad and Uncle forcibly cast off Charu from Ram. Ram assumes that, those miscreants have taken away Charu from him and takes revenge against them.

This separation from Charu pushes Ram to a singular Medical and Psychological problem. Unable to tolerate the pressures of separation from Charu, he starts to live his life in a global of illusion. Though Charu is clear of him, in step with his illusionary World, he supposes that, Charu is near him and lives in conjunction with him.

The forcibly separated Charu (who comes from US) and the Psychiatrist Uncle (Jayaprakash) come to understand in regards to the problems, that are faced by Ram. They analyze his problems. Charu being the one person, who can assist him, comes forward to assist Ram, within the technique of bringing him back to normalcy.

The manners wherein Ram suffers from aloofness, falls in Love over Charu forms the Crux of the tale. Finally, whether Ram and Charu join together of their life is the Climax of the film.

Atharvaa has encounter huge distances within the aspect of his performances. From his debut film ‘Banaa Kaathadi’, to his second film, this MUK, his performance-graph has skyrocketed within the forward direction. He has done well in all his scenes. In particular, the close ups of eyes and face, all of the romantic scenes and his angriness expressing scenes are awesome. With the exception of that, he has excelled as a high-class CEO, within the Beacon fight, a brand new Stunt introduced for the primary time on this movie and in his Dance performances.

Amala Paul turns better and better, from her previous films. She also has impressed as a CEO, in her dances and in her performances within the romantic scenes with Atharvaa.

Santhanam comes as Chandru, who's an America returned guy. He comes as a relative of Amala Paul. He makes excellent comedies of the folk working within the IT and ITES industry and their life-style, that are un-deniable, but admirable.

As ever, Jayaprakash impresses all and sundry. He comes as a Psychiatrist on this story. The original difference in his character on this film is he's dragged in few comedies by Santhanam.

Anupama Kumar who comes because the Mother of Atharvaa has done extra-ordinarily well. Nasser, one among well wisher of Atharvaa’s family is sweet as ever. Yashika’s (Atharvaa’s colleague) performances are very charming.

G.V.Prakash Kumar has scored the Music and the Background Music. He has given an overly delightful Music. ‘Oru Murai’, ‘Oh Sunanda’ and the mummy sentiment song could be very nice. Lyrics by Thamarai are another highlight to MUK.

Shakthi’s Cinematography is of top-class. In general, his color sense is praiseworthy. They have got used a novel Camera called Panavison for the portion shot in Las Vegas, Big apple etc. Editing by Antony may be very good, considering the several form of Story presentation on this film.

Writer/Director/Producer Elred Kumar has presented a fancy story in an entertaining manner. His effort to spotlight the results of positive vibration is another new thing, which isn't a run-of-the-mill stuff.

There are many pluses just like the Story itself, its choreography, the Costume designing, Art Direction, and the performances of the Artists etc. Within the name of deep Love, repeated hugging scenes between Atharvaa and Amala Paul attract very loud whistles and claps within the Cinema halls.

The Screenplay could be the one negative factor for MUK. The presentation of the tale is slightly complex to understood.

To conclude, ‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’, is a feel good film. ‘Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal’ (MUK), has matched / exceeded the expectancy levels for sure.

Verdict: Glossy

'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' audio releasedPGV  [ Wed, Mar 21, 2012 ]

  • The audio of 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' was launched in Chennai on March 18. Speaking on the function, director Shakthivel Balaji lauded cinematographer Vijay Milton, who shot the film using a still camera and said his work could be mentioned after the discharge of this film. He also explained why the film were inordinately delayed.

Lingusamy produced 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' on behalf of Thirupati Brothers. The film features new faces Shri, Mithun Murali, Urmila and Manisha. Vijay Milton cranked the camera while Prasanna scored the music. Na. Muthukumar wrote the songs.

Director Shakthivel Balaji said though 'Kadhal' was a hit, 'Kalloori' didn't do well on the BO. This created some confusion over taking on the following project.. Different directors gave different scripts. Lingusamy must have produced 'Kadhal'. When this didn't happen, he (Shakthivel Balaji) had selected the tale of 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' for Lingusamy. There has been wavering, as he couldn't impress Lingusamy. As opposed to taking note of the story, he wanted Lungusamy to peer the shots that he would give him. It took him two years to think and get ready the script.. A still camera was used to shoot 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9' as they desired to do something new. The attempt was a success, Shakthivel Balaji said, adding he was guilty for the delay.

Directors Sasi, Ezhil and S.S. Stanley and Na Muthukumar were among others who attended the function.

Shooting in Canada but Kasimedu formula

Shooting in Canada but Kasimedu formula

Aravind has clearly understood that Kasimedu formula only will figure out even supposing the shooting happens in Canada. Though dozens of actors are debuting as heroes, Aravind has a different attraction. The cause of this he has directed the film Kadhal Pisase wherein he has donned the lead role.

A college student is a person of principle and he loves a woman who has the similar wavelength. So the hero who's in love decides to marry her. At this juncture the villain enters. The hero takes the knife in his hands and starts fighting with the villain leaving his principles behind. Whether the lovers unite is the remainder of the story.

At a time when people run abroad to shoot the song sequences for his or her films, Kadhal Pisase team has gone to Canada because the story happens there. Aside from Canada, the shooting of this film has taken place in Mumbai, Chennai and Pondicherry.

Mithuna and Anitha Reddy are the heroines of this film. Paul Livingston has handled the camera. Brindan has composed the music. The audio CD of Kadhal Pisase was released recently. Music composers Sabesh and Murali have also attended this function since they've scored the background music for this film.

Rajini records a verse for ‘Kochaidaiyan’

Rajini records a verse for 'Kochaidaiyan'PGV  [ Fri, Mar 16, 2012 ]

  • Soundarya Aswin Rajinikanth has her PR machinery in top gear. Every activity even remotely connected together with her directorial venture 'Kochadaiyan' featuring her father gets wide publicity. The primary poster showing Rajini in a Shiva Thandavam pose, released a month ago, instantly created a substantial amount of hype at the same time as the project was taking shape. The name of Rajini spells magic and his daughter knows it better than anybody else. Such a lot for the hype.

The other day a beaming Rajini in white kurta drove to A.R. Rahman's studio to record a song/verse for the film. Soundarya and poet-lyricist Vairamuthu were with Rajini on the studio. A source confirming this said "Rajini sir" has sung, rather recited, a bunch 'Kochadaiyan', set to music by A.R. Rahman. Vairamuthu wrote the lines. It's not a song as such that it does require a qualified singer to sing. This is a recitation of a lyrical verse, it's explained. That is the primary time Rajini lent his voice to Rahman's composition. It's ten years for the reason that superstar sung a song and the number was "Adikuthu Kuluru" for the film 'Mannan'.Vairamuthu is alleged to be ecstatic. He reportedly commented that forgetting the superstar that he is, he was so stuffed with child-like enthusiasm, looking ahead to instructions. Consistent with him, the lyrics convey a smart man's perspective of life. It has music in addition to Rajini’s powerful recitation. "In Rajini's voice, my lyrics acquire new charm," Vairamuthu exulted. It's said A.R. Rahman was pleased with the output.

On the production front, things are moving at break-neck speed. Soundarya aims to wrap up the flick by June and release it in August. The team is able to take off for London on March 21 where the primary schedule of shooting will go on for roughly 20 days. Later, the rest portions might be shot in Chennai, Bangalore and Mysore.

Soundarya plans to release the film within the Japanese version as well, for Rajini has a sizeable fan following in Japan. From 'Muthu' to 'Enthiran', all of the superstar's films released in Japan were well received.

The 3D film to be shot using the movie capture technique has actors Jackie Shroff, R. Sarathkumar, Aadhi, Deepika Padukone, Shobana and Nasser playing important roles.

‘Sevarkodi’ director sour

'Sevarkodi' director sourPGV  [ Thu, Mar 15, 2012 ]

  • Director R. Subramanian is sour that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the 'A' certificate to his small budget debut film 'Sevarkodi', thereby depriving it of the 30 per cent tax concession.

If small-budget films are given the 'A' certificate, all those concerned of their production could be badly affected. An extra burden could be cast on them, which they wouldn't be capable to bear, he says.

He has appealed to the captains of the industry to step in and make efforts to offer protection to the interests of the makers of small budget films.

Before 'Sevarkodi' Subramanian has written the dialogues for 'Abhiyum Nanum' and 'Vaamanan'. 'Sevarkodi' is his maiden directorial venture. He cast new faces a swimming champion Arun Balaji because the hero, Bhama because the heroine and Pavan because the villain. The film was made on a shoestring budget.

When the film was screened for the censors, they said they might give it the 'A' certificate as there has been a drinking scene in it. Subramanian had explained the context wherein this scene became necessary, however the censors stood their ground.Alleging discrimination, Subramanian avers that some big budget films with drinking scenes has been granted 'U' certificate. He couldn't understand why the censors adopted different yardsticks.

The State Government has recently announced a tax incentive scheme for films which comply with certain norms. Films getting 'A' certificates aren't eligible for the 30 per cent tax concession.

Subramanian says he was suffering from the censor's decision with a purpose to not help small-budget films like 'Sevarkodi'.

'Alex Pandian' shoot interrupted, alleges Gnanavel RajaPGV  [ Thu, Mar 15, 2012 ]

  • Director Suraaj's 'Alex Pandian' starring Karthi and Anushka is caught in a war of nerves. Two days ago, the shooting of the film near Meenambakkam was allegedly interrupted. Lightmen who were alleged to come to the sets around 7 a.m. came very late. Their late arrival created problems for the film unit and the shooting was interrupted. On hearing this, representatives of the Tamil Film Producers Council visited the spot. Producer Gnanavel Raja told mediapersons that he and director/actor Ameer were fighting a legal battle over money matters in regards to 'Paruthiveeran' and that he have been stressed to have the problem sorted out through talks. He had also received indirect threats, he alleged. Now problems were created to disrupt the shooting of 'Alex Pandian', Raja said.

When contacted, Ameer told reporters that he didn't know why lightmen had gone to the shooting spot late. Ganavel Raja was unnecessarily dragging his (Ameer's) into it. The last and final round of talks on wage rise for directors, lightmen and technicians was scheduled for March 14. Turning the table against Gnanavel Raja, Ameer said it seemed a deliberate try to malign him and forestall him (Ameer) from participating within the talks. Regardless of the hurdles he would attend the talks, Ameer said..

The audio and the trailer of the romantic flick 'OKOK' directed by M. Rajesh was released at a grand function attended among others by actors Suriya and Karthi.Stalin said he enjoyed watching the flicks 'Shiva Manasula Shakthi' and 'Boss Engira Bhaskaran', both directed by Rajesh. Winning five awards, it hasn't ever been so good for Tamil cinema

Winning five awards, it hasn't ever been so good for Tamil cinemaPGV  [ Thu, Mar 8, 2012 ]

  • The image of Tamil cinema has changed with Kollywood films winning as many as five awards this year on the 59th National Film Awards announced on March 7. 'Vaaga Sooda Va', 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' and 'Aaranya Kandam', all small-budget films that received popular acclaim, have received national recognition.'Vaaga Sooda Va' directed by Sargunam won the award for Best Tamil film (regional film category).'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai', directed by Suseendran, won the award for 'Best popular film providing wholesome entertainment'. Its protagonist, Appukutti, received the most productive supporting actor award.'Aaranya Kaandam' director young Thiagarajan Kumararaja received the 'Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut film of a director' (Best debutant director category.)Pravin K.L. and Srikanth from the 'Aaranya Kaandam' team bagged the award for best editing.K.Hariharan, director of LV Prasad Film and television Academy, who was a central jury member this year, said the 'Vaaga Sooda Va', 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' and 'Aaranya Kaandam' have changed a twin of Tamil Cinema. "Last year 'Aadukulam' did that. This year these three films have made everyone take a look at Tamil cinema with great respect."'Aaranya Kaandam' came in for special mention by Hariharan. He said the jury was simply stunned by the category of the film and the intense editing by Pravin K.L. and Srikanth."That film is a good example of maturity and understanding of the craft. It's about boldy engaging with violence in a highly structured manner."Unlike within the previous years when mostly Bollywood flicks walked away with awards within the popular film category, this year's honour went to 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai'.Hariharan said, "IT IS A refreshing entrant to the list. This is a huge departure from prevalent styles within the industry, adopting almost a fable-like narrative that impressed us."Similarly, 'Vaagai Sooda Va' was very refreshing, Hariharan said. 'Vaagai Sooda Va' director Thiagarajan Kumararaja, expressing happiness, said, "I'm happy, but would has been happier if a couple of others in our team like folks who worked on music and cinematography had also received awards. All of the same, it's heartening that it' was chosen."Kumararaja further said, "It's quite a negative film, almost amoral. This award will possibly encourage film makers to think about themes outside what's conventionally seen as acceptable."Suseendran, director of 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' is delighted. "The credit goes to Madhan who placed his trust on us and all of the team. Lots of my friends and associates were skeptical about my collection of Appukutti to play the protagonist, but his receiving the most productive supporting actor award only goes to turn that I USED TO BE 200 per cent right," Suseendran said. He added, "I'M so happy for Appukutti who did an attractive job within the movie. I'M glad thon the film clicked at the national level and that i hope to do more such films so they can get all of the team recognition."Appukkui described the day because the most unforgettable in his life. "I did what director Suseendran told me to do. When he was directing me, he told me I'D get an award. This has really happened now. In fact, I won the award as a result of Suseendran. Though I'VE BEEN in cinema for years, it's only now I'M satisfied," Appukutti said. 'Vaagai Sooda Va' director Surgunam said he had worked very hard for a very long time. I NEEDED the film to be realistic and honest. An award like this may provide inspiration and effort. "I'D continue to offer good films and prove myself worthy of the dignity I'VE received now."Actor/director Revathy received the award (short film category) for 'Best film on family values' for her17-minute 'Red Building where the Sun Sets'. She made the film for a corporation in Bangalore.
